    i am in the process of duplicating an EE 1.6.8 site i maintain (http://jamminjava.com) with with a new install of 2.3.1 on a different server.  i can’t seem to find the Photo Gallery and Weblog modules that i utilize on the original site.

    what do i do?

    thanks!

    Hi Luke,

    Thanks for your question! The answer is simple, but in part, unsatisfying. Weblogs are now called Channels in EE2, and the upgrade process will automatically convert all weblog references to channels, so there’s no need to worry with that.

    Regarding the Photo Gallery module, on the other hand, we do not currently have an upgrade path for EE1 Photo Gallery users. We’re not abandoning it, to be sure. It’s just undergoing a radical change from EE1, and it’s just not yet available.

    If you rely heavily on the Photo Gallery module, it may be best to stick with EE1 until we have an upgrade path in place.

    please tell me this isn’t true or that there is a way around it!  this is a NEW site i am building in EE2 and just spent $300 for the commercial license. i already bought the EE1 commercial license for my other site.

    my needs are very simple - i just need to be able to upload an image 400x300 to an entry in one of my channels and have it appear that size on the main listing and resized on the abbreviated listing.  you can see how this looks here:

    full size image: http://jamminjava.com/home/events/ether

    resized image: http://jamminjava.com/home/events/list

    i need to find a way to do this or else i will have to get a refund and start over from scratch with another CMS having wasted days of work!

    thanks for your help!

    Here are 2 options to do what you want:

    1. You can create different size images on upload, so the original image can be resized to say 400x300 during upload and a second image of say 200x150 created as well, then just use the different versions in the template code for each page. See user guide for file management, and this tutorial for implementing this method.

    2. Spend $15 on the CE Image addon and it will create any size image you want on the fly during page loading (cached copy as well). So just upload the largest size image you will ever want and then set sizes in the template. This is my preferred method as it keeps your options open for the future.

    Hi Luke,

    Sorry I misunderstood! Yes, if you’re building a new site from scratch, there are many options you have for creating a new gallery. In addition to the great suggestions Paul made, I know Channel Images comes highly recommended. I just meant to say that users of the Photo Gallery module in EE1 do not yet have an upgrade path to EE2, that’s all.

    Hope this helps!

    thanks guys.  this looks like it will do what i need to do but i have one more question.  i was able to set up the upload preferences so that the three sizes of the original image are created.  they are then showing up in the “gallery” folder i created on my server.  i am now having trouble getting them to show up where i want them.

    when i create an entry i have a File Type Channel Field called Artist Image {artist-image}.  After I’ve uploaded the image I can select it in this field but how I do I display that particular image on the entry’s page?  as shown here: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/modules/file/file_tag.html#directory-title i tried this:

    {exp:file:entries limit="20" directory_id="1" dynamic="no"}

            {if full_file_url}
                    {full_file_url}
            {/if}

    {/exp:file:entries}

    this is displaying ALL the images that are in the “full” size folder but i need just the one i selected when i published the entry - the {artist-image}.

    thanks for your help guys.

    hey guys.  anyone have a solution here? i was able to upload and resize the images the way i want but need help getting them to appear in the three different sizes on three locations on the site?

    thanks!

    limit=“1” not 20, if you’re just trying to show 1. And you don’t want dynamic=“no” if you want to dynamically select it.

    Hi waterintowine,

    To display the full image along with your entry, you use the short name of the file field that is part of that channel group, {artist-image} similar to this:

    {artist-image wrap="image"}

    Place that code where you want to have it appear in your entry template.
    To use one of your resized images, you would need to use the tag pair similar to this:

    {artist-image}
    {path}/medium/{filename}.{extension}
    {/artist-image}

    Replace “medium” with the name of the resized folder you want to use. You will also want to use this code where you want the image to appear in your entry template.

    Does that help clarify this?

    Great! Is there anything else we can do to help or are you squared away?
