Can anyone recommend am inexpensive host that uses PHP 5.3 and preferably cPanel.

My current web provider cannot give me a date when they are expected to upgrade to PHP 5.3

Shared hosting? bluehost.com all the way…. or hostmonster, same company but sometimes cheaper for whatever reason. NOT HostGATOR… several clients have used them, and always have issues with them, usually speed issues (lot of server freezing).

EDIT: nevermind, I completely glossed over the php 5.3 part for whatever reason—I blame lack of sleep 😊.

CPanel and if you as tech support and tell them that you are a developer
they will compile PHP 5.3.8 for you, but you will have to load it through
your .htaccess file. They did it for me.

PHP 5.3 and about $7 a month. I use their semi-dedicated service, but have a standard shared hosting account with them too.

Many thanks to @Mirge, Eric Barnes, InsiteFX && skunkbad.

I looked at all the suggestions and eventually decided to go with GoDaddy.com
    mostly because:
    1. it was within my budget
    2. they already register a few domains
    3. most of all the monthly introductory special offer.
    4. and having USA, Europe and Asia-Pacific linked servers.

Foolishly I chose to renew a domain which was registered with another hosting
company and in my ignorance transferred registration :(

That is when the frustration started, Godaddy opened my hosting account but was
not allowed to change the DNS settings until approved by the previous registrar.

So back to the original registrar and was informed that they had transferred the
account to Tucows and no longer had access to the DNS settings.

It takes Tucows about a week to transfer the account and overall about two weeks
for the site to become active.

Lesson to be learnt is to ensure that the DNS is pointed to the new hosting company before transferring.

Initial impressions are that the site designers must be on speed since the page options are overwhelming - navigation is a nightmare. I am really impressed with the transfer speed using FileZilla so much so I am tempted to edit files online.

So here is the new site with PHP 5.36
