Tried upgrading to 2.3.1. However the links and JavaScript don’t work. When you try clicking on any of the links it reloads the page. Anything that is affected by JavaScript won’t render.
I am able to log into the Control Panel.

    EE 2.2.2
    Solspace FreeForm 3.1.0
Pixel & Tonic WYGWAM 2.1.6 and Matrix 2.2.2.1

I cleared my cache and made sure my SQL was optimized.
Made sure that the write permissions were correctly updated.

    Hi McCoy IT,

Sorry you’re experiencing this. When you say the links and JS won’t work, are you referring to the front-end of the site or in the CP? If you’re referring to the CP, then it sounds like you might not have uploaded the new themes folder. Please make sure you’ve uploaded the themes folder to your site as detailed in this step of the upgrade.

Does that take care of it for you?

This was on the front-end. I could get into the CP and navigate without a problem.

Oh and I renamed the existing Theme and System folder before uploading the 2.3.1 upgrade.

Let us know how you fare after trying the upgrade again, McCoy. If you could provide specifics on where you’re seeing these issues, that would be very helpful. Even better, if you could provide a link so that we can see the same thing you’re looking at.

I definitely want to help see this resolved for you. Thanks for your patience!

Ok I tried upgrading my 2.2.2 to 2.3.1. I brought this site over from a staging server which I originally tried it on. Did the upgrade using the instructions from the User Guide. It doesn’t look like either the front-end or the control panel want to call the jquery libraries. I am going through all of the checks suggested throughout the forum to make sure cache is clear, that I have loaded the new themes folder, no special variables etc.

I can’t provide a sample as this is internal.

The source on the Control Panel side throws this for at the bottom of the document:

    type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="index.php?S=10d7b824ccbdfca86c274db6f08bc0103938e7fd&D=cp&C=javascript&M=combo_load&ui=core,widget,mouse,position,sortable,dialog&plugin=ee_focus,ee_notice,ee_txtarea,tablesorter,ee_navigation&file=cp/global&effect=core&v=0"

    charset="utf-8" src="index.php?S=10d7b824ccbdfca86c274db6f08bc0103938e7fd&D=cp&C=javascript&M=combo_load&file=cp/homepage&v=0"

Just going through the themes directory. Seems that when I unzipped the 2.3.1 package the entire jquery compressed folder doesn’t unpack.

This seems to be fixed now. Most likely an oddity with Windows 7 unzip. This could have been the cause with the other files to not unpack or corrupt when I initially tried updating the staging server.

I find every time I get the download from the ExpressionEngine site the zip contents is encrypted because they are zipping the package on a Mac. Windows 7 automatically encrypts these files when extracted. Please look into this as it is an nuisance to have to double check files if they exist.

Plugin developers should also be informed of the Mac-to-Win7 zip encryption.

Thanks for being available for tech support.

    Really frustrated with this!
Pushed to production server and the front-end won’t implement my custom javascript file that is a template file in EE or allow me to click a link to go to another page. Keeps refreshing the homepage!

Works on development server and staging…

And yes the CP is working fine. Ran Clear Cache and SQL Optimization.

Why are the links not going anywhere?
I was able to click on the EE tag jquery links from the view source page and they show up but the custom javascript page template file points back to the source code of the homepage?

Glad you were able to make some progress on this so far, McCoy! Do you know what the differences are between your staging server and your production server in terms of the EE setup.

I think the easiest way to help at this point is going to be for us to take a first-hand look if at all possible. Be on the lookout for an email from me.

    Hi McCoy,

Thanks for the email. I understand that it’s not possible to share your details, and that’s certainly ok. Unfortunately, that means it might take a bit longer to track down what’s going on here since I’m essentially troubleshooting this blind.

It sounds like there are two remaining issues: 1) your JS template will not load, and 2) links to any page on the site other than the home page do not work. Could you break down for me and describe in detail each of these two issues? What are you observing? What do you expect to happen and what happens instead? What have you tried to fix it?

    1) The javascript I am needing to load comes from a template file I created in the system not an actual physical file I am linking too. I request it after the jquery EE script tags in my footer template. The jQuery libraries load perfectly after figuring out what Win7 does to zip files. When I view the source code of the rendered page the src for my custom javascript template is correct however when you click it it loads the 404 error template source code.

    2) The homepage loads as usual (CSS, images, jQuery but not my custom code that uses jquery commands, and nested templates) however any links from this page cause the page to reload itself when clicked.
I am curious about my htaccess file but it was working before so not sure if there was something updated in EE that needs to be changed in the htaccess file to work.

Went through your checklist for botched upgrades.
Reviewed backup sql dump with sql dump after first attempt upgrade to verify that the backup I used wasn’t tainted with 2.3.1 updates.
Ran the Server Requirement wizard. Everything is good there.
Reviewed settings in the control panel.
Reviewed the changelog for 2.3.0 and 2.3.1
I’ll try another upgrade attempt to the production server.
