When trying to get into the template manager I am getting the error.

The name you submitted may only contain alpha-numeric characters, underscores, and dashes styles copy

also get this same error when I attempt to synchronize templates.

Help would be appreciated.

I actually figured this out.  The solution is embarrassingly simple.  At one point I copied the style template on my local just to have a temporary archive of it while I was trying something different.  I must have uploaded it and because there was a space between styles and copy whenever expression engine attempted to sync the templates it was throwing an error.  Solution was to delete styles copy.html on the server.  Like I said embarrassingly simple.
