In setting up a new EE2 install, my first task is replacing the shipped System Offline Template with a custom version. But any comments or the E-mail encode tag in this template render directly to the screen. (Comments are entered EE style with the curlies.) What to do?

    Hi g0t035,

Let me see if I can get this sorted out for you. The System Offline file is not a standard ExpressionEngine template, but rather a regular, static HTML file. In that regard, it is not passed through ExpressionEngine’s template parser and won’t render any ExpressionEngine tags as a result.

You can modify that file however you like, but you will have to use good ol’ fashioned HTML to do it.

    I hope that helps.

    Cheers!

    Thank you.

I did not see anything in the docs stating that the offline template would not process EE comments or tags. That should be stated.

It is tempting to think there must be an incorrect setting somewhere causing the template to not recognize comments or tags.

Yes there are reasons why the developer would want to use comments and tags there, but we can live without it.

    Hi solarsail,

Did you respond from a different account? Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t leaving anyone out. We are always looking for ways to improve our documentation, so please feel free to make a Feature Request.

    Thanks!
