    Hi there—

I’ve got a development server over at testsite.finearts.yorku.ca and the Control Panel loads extremely slow. From the front-end it loads fine, including the login page, but as soon as I arrive at the CP pages it takes upwards of two minutes to load the page.

I haven’t been working in this environment for a while, and I haven’t made any changes to the code so I’m not really sure what could be causing this issue.

Can you give me some ideas on how I can trouble shoot?

    Thanks muchly,

    Alexis

Just noticed this at the bottom of the page where is says the version. 196seconds to execute a script, seems strange…

I’m getting exactly the same problem on one of my sites running 2.3.1 with the Control Panel homepage taking, on average, around 195 seconds to load. Anyone else experiencing this, or have any ideas how to solve it? I’ve restarted MySQL and the VPS itself, and this doesn’t solve things.

I deactivated the NSM Addon Updater accessory, and hey presto, the CP purrs like a kitten!

Thanks for the heads up Phil.  And yes- this is cropping up several times lately.  I suspect a popular addon or two are ‘down’.

If the cp is slow all over AND it’s only happening for superadmins?  Odds are very good the problem is due to a third party add-on doing a version check.  They basically ‘phone home’ to see if there’s a new version and give you an update message if there is.  The problem happens if ‘home’ does not answer.  So they let the phone ring way too long- kinda like this metaphore.  Eventually it gives up the ‘phone home’ attempt and processing continues as normal.

If your slowdown matches the superadm+all over cp pattern?  Look for add-ons that show update messages.  Or- NSM Addon Accessory.  Remove/disable them.  Well- preferably remove, as I don’t know how they are sending the update check.  I’m fairly sure someone solved this issue by removing html_strip- which is just a plugin and I wouldn’t have thought it was checking.

But yes- seek out anything that tries to give you a ‘new version available’ message and disable that behavior.

And then- let me know back what you find!
