    My client is reporting that a field with “none” formatting is changing

    [i]
    to
    <i>

    They are also reporting that it improperly escapes quotation marks in this instance:

    Can you help me understand what is happening here and tell me how I can prevent these changes to the output?

    Hi ruraldreams,

    What version and build of EE are you using?
    Are you using any add-ons?

    Using a textarea with formatting set to none does not do anything to the content.

    Was the content already in the field before the formatting was changed or was the content added after the formatting was changed?

    I cannot replicate in my own install

    How exactly were the quotation marks escaped?

    You mentioned about output above. I’m just wondering do you actually mean that if you place

    [i]
    into a field set to None that when it is rendered on the front-end of the site that it comes out as
    <i>

    perhaps?

    If so then this is due to the BBCode translation which takes place inside of ExpressionEngine.

    Apologies if that’s not what you meant but just wanted to see if that’s what is happening here?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Yes, that is what I mean.  Why is translation taking place in a field set to “none”?  How can I disable it?

    Hi ruraldreams,

    The formatting option applies to html typography. What you are seeing here is that

    [i]

    is BBCode for italic, and is being parsed in that regard. I checked with our Developer and there is no way to disable BBCode parsing without making some hacks to the Core. In the meantime, feel free to make a Feature Request for disabling BBCode on a channel by channel basis.

    Thanks!
