Question about upgrading

I have a few questions. I recently moved my EE site to a new server. All of the sudden we are getting script time out errors when trying to use the tabs in the control panel during content entry. The message mentions ../themes/javascript/compressed/jquery.

In looking through the forum, it appears that others have experienced this problem, and it may have been fixed by a new build of EE. So my first question, is do you have an idea why this problem would suddenly crop up after migrating our site to a new server? (No data was changed, and all other aspects of the site are working correctly). The second question is if upgrading to the latest build will fix this problem?

And now for the final question. Our site has some enourmous documents, so I changed some of the fields in exp_channel_data to mediumtext. The last time I upgraded to a new build, it reverted the fields to the original settings and we lost our data. At that time, the site was not live, so it was not a big deal. Now, our site is live, with lots of data, so it would be catastrophic if the fields are reverted during the install. So my question is, Is it safe to install the new build, or will it revert the database stucture? If installing it does revert the database, is there some procedure to retain/restore the data?

Our site is running 2.1.3, Build 20101220

Well, it looks like I getting no responses, so I installed the new build on our old server to see what would happen. It turns out that it does not revert the database field. (I think when I had this happen before I was going from EE 2.0 beta to the final release, and perhaps there was something different about the install process.) I then went ahead and installed the new build to our new server. After upgrade, the tabs on the CP are still slow, so I don’t think the new build fixed anything. Perhaps it is an issue with the server.

    Ryba21,

I’m sorry about the delay responses. We’re busier than normal and working through the queue. With you CP tabs issue is the only problem that it’s slow? How slow? Are all the paths set correctly? Have you talked to your host about this issue since it only came up after migrating hosts?
