    Hi there,

Just wondering how people are formatting textarea fields to best handle links?

If I simply type a URL into the textarea (set to XHTML formatting), it then looks like it’s encoded and is not clickable on the front-end?

Is there another way to do links that makes it simple for clients, or have I got a setting set incorrectly somewhere?

We have used http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/auto-linker in the past. Just wrap your field and it will do the work.

Thanks Michael, the strange thing is that this add-on says it replaces the standard EE function when it has to be turned off. That function (Automatically turn URLs and email addresses into links?) is turned on for all channels, but doesn’t seem to be working?

As an example, I’ve added a link to the bottom of this article by simply typing the URL into the entry:
    http://cibas-dev.customstudio.co.uk/get-the-news/article/portsmouth_free_time_survey

You can see that it’s NOT being formatted as a link, even though this setting is turned on.

    Any ideas?

Tom, thanks for clarifying. The link at the bottom is actually a “link” if you look at the code… its just messed up.

Ugh, had pasted the link but the forum didn’t like it. I suggested deleting the link and the line it is on and then retyping manually. See if that makes a difference. Did you paste the link into the entry by chance?

    Hi Michael,

That’s a good suggestion. I’ve just tried deleting that line (and the line above), then re-typing everything manually, with no success: http://cibas-dev.customstudio.co.uk/get-the-news/article/portsmouth_free_time_survey

    Any other ideas?
