Image thumbnails broken in back-end after upgrade

I have just upgraded from EE2.1 to EE2.3.1 and it all seems to have gone ok. 1 small issue is that the image thumbnails are broken in the back-end for all my custom File fields. They are all using the built-in File module. It seems that there is an extra forward slash before the file path which is causing the issue.

Currently: //images/banners/_thumbs/banner-about.jpg
Should be: /images/banners/_thumbs/banner-about.jpg

However once the File manager is open (in the popup), the thumbnails display fine.

Anyone know how to fix this?
And also how do you get the File manager to display thumbnails by default instead of opening with a text list of images?

Hi markgledhill,

I’m sorry this update left you with some loose ends. Let’s see what I can do to tie them up for you.

On your first question, have you had a look at the preferences for your upload destinations? Content-> Files-> File Upload Preferences. Click the “Edit” icon for the affected destinations and verify your path an URL settings are correct. If that doesn’t do it, we’ll dig a little deeper. Also, I want to verify with you here that aside form the broken thumbnails in the Control Panel, your files appear properly elsewhere? In your templates, for instance?

For the “thumbnail vs. list” preference… When you bring up a File Browser, you should see a select menu in the lower left. In my test, if I set that to “Thumbnail” and closed the File Browser, the next time I opened it up, it was in Thumbnail view. Can you give that a quick test for me and see if your experience is the same?

Thanks!

I have checked all the file upload destinations and the paths are all correct. For example:

/public_html/images/banners/
/images/banners/

I tried changing the URL path to:

images/banners/

Then the thumbnails displayed when editing an entry, but not in the file manager, so I changed them back.

The images all display properly on the front-end of the site in the templates.

In fact when you are editing an entry, and then remove the image from the file upload field, and then select a new one, the thumbnail appears. It’s only when you save the entry and then revisit it, the forward slash has appeared in the path and the thumbnail no longer appears.

Hi markgledhill,

Can you try something for me? Can you prepend the protocol and domain name as part of your URL setting and see if that alleviates the issue?

http://example.com/

I know that seems innocuous, but that’s how my test install is set up, and I’m not seeing this issue on any of my installations. If that doesn’t clear this up, we’ll get in there and have a look.

Thanks!
