I have uploaded the backup_proish module to: /system/expressionengine/third_party/

The module is not visible in the Modules list.

    The instructions are as follows:

“To install Backup Pro(ish) you follow the same steps as any other ExpressionEngine add-on:

      Unzip the download
Upload the extracted folder to your ExpressionEngine third party folder usually located at:
      /system/expressionengine/third_party/
Navigate to your Add-Ons management page and choose Modules
Select Backup Pro(ish) from the list and click install.

You’ll also have to make sure that the directory “backups” and all it’s contents are writable by the webserver but Backup Pro(ish) will let you know if it’s not.”

And the page is here: http://mithra62.com/docs/view/backup-proish-installation

I have uploaded to this folder, there is not themes folder, I have changed the file permissions to 755 as instructed and the module is still not visible in the Modules list.

I have to say that I really like Expression Engine, but I am getting a bit tired of the trouble that I’m having installing add-ons. There are some add-ons that I have just given up on installing coz it’s just too much hassle. I have spent a lot of money on this software and I don’t expect to have this much trouble installing add-ons.

It would be worth contacting the provider. When I first started writing addons this was one of the most frustrating things as the rules for the class naming are so strict (even case sensitive) with no debugging options. It’s possible that somewhere the developer has missed something. I’ve noticed no one has commented on the add-on on they site, perhaps you are the first customer.

If you do not get much joy from the provider, PM me

    GabbaTheHutt,

I agree with Tim that you should contact the add-on developer. Also since this is about a third party add-on I’m going to move this to Community help.

Feel free to post again as needed.

Thanks guys and excuse my rather grumpy message. I was under the impression that EE had to sanction any add-ons advertised on Devot:ee and that whether or not the add-on can be installed would be checked by EE. Eric, thanks for responding. I look forward to finding a solution to this so that I can carry on enjoying your otherwise fantastic product.

No worries Gabba; it’s never fun dealing with issues when things should just “work”.

No, EE doesn’t sanction every add-on, but the community’s pretty on top of making sure no one gets a bum deal and that issues are addressed. For the most part though, it’s always a good idea to contact the add-on developer directly than through EE itself. Had you not emailed me I might not still know of your issue.

That said, I have a feeling we’re having some email issues; I’ve responded a couple times and have yet to hear anything back. Just in case here’s what I sent:

Can you please look inside the extracted directory and see if there’s another, single, directory inside called “backup_proish”? I have a feeling that’s the case.  If so, simply move that directory so it’s the one inside the third_party folder.

If not, can you please send me CP and FTP access so I can troubleshoot on my end?

    Thanks,
    Eric

Eric has helped me to determine the issue and it turns out to be my fault and not an issue with the module at all! Once the problem was resolved the module appeared immediately and was ridiculously easy to install and use.

My apologies to Eric was wasting his time and bringing his product into question. The Backup Pro(ish) module is a fine product: it works beautifully and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

    Cheers
