I am using EE 2.3 and I can’t save my templates as separate files. I am getting the error “Unable to save your template as a text file”

I have the server path correct and the folder is writable. Is there anything on the server side or .htaccess file that I need to adjust.

    Hi gavincooper,

Are you using the full path or relative path for your template files? Please ensure that you are using the full path. If you are still having trouble after that, could you post up the server path you are using and also one more time ensure that your template folder and all nested folders under it are set to 777.

This page in the user guide will also be helpful.

Please let me know how it goes when you are done.

Hi Sean, I used the full server path to the folder and the permissions are correct, but the message still appears in the control panel “Unable to Save the template as file”

    gavin,

Could you navigate to your templates folder and check that there is a folder inside named default_site and that it’s permissions are set to 777. If it’s not there please create it and try again.

I did create the folder “default_site” to the templates folder with the 777 permissions set. I am still getting a “Unable to save the Template as file”

I am tried relative path and absolute path to the server with the same result.

This is one of the exact same issues I am having with my EE as well.  If you solve this issue please let me know the solution.

    Best of luck,

Could the server being in PHP Safe mode have an effect on the template file not saving out as files?

    Hi gavincooper,

I took your question to one of our Devs and she said that, yes, PHP safe mode would have an effect on being able to save templates as files. Is there anyway you can open a ticket with your hosting provider about this?
