I’m trying to build a searchable resource library in EE2.2, but I’ve made very little headway.

Here’s what I’m trying to do:

Resources would be uploaded into the file manager, then categorised, so that they can be displayed in browseable lists on the website, or retrieved by searching.

    Resources would be categorised by:

    - Type (Download/PDF, Image, Video…)
    - Theme (Farming, Architecture, Sport…)
    - Location (England, Scotland, Wales…)

The advanced search would have a dropdown for each of these category types, allowing visitors to search for all PDFs relating to Farming in Scotland, for example (as well as a free text keywords field).

Does anyone have any experience of setting up functionality like this?

Is what I’m trying to do even possible in EE? I can’t even figure out if resources can be categorised, or how they can be searched, and there doesn’t seem to be a handy plugin over at Devotee that I can use.

Any help or advice massively appreciated!

    Hi weejimmyhat,

If it were me I would use the Channel Module to add my documents.
Then you can use a combination of custom fields and categories for the type, theme and location.

You can then use the native search function or for even more power the Super Search module from Solspace

    Does that help?

    Thanks John,

Yes, I think it makes sense to do it with channel entries as you suggest.

I just thought there might be some way of easily listing the contents of file manager folders on the front end of the site - so avoiding the extra work involved in having to post each file in the archive as a seperate entry.

I guess file manager files are just files though, so can’t have the kind of supporting info an archive like this needs.

    Cheers,
    Pete

Have you seen the {exp:file:entries} tag? Might that help here, Pete?
