member field on /member/profile/

EE 2.3.1 with the member module. When members go to their profile, which is exactly our forum profile, can I display a custom member field? I want it to say Hello, first_name.

I’ve tried sending the member_id to an embedded template to get the info but it’s not working so I guess not parsing in the order I’d like it to.

Any suggestions?
