When I try to save a layout I get the following error:
There was a problem saving your layout.  The following fields have invalid characters in the short names: missing_name

I know there have been lots of others posting about this (some a year or so old I think) and the “solution” is to remove your layouts, which is fine except I really need layouts. I spent hours creating them, compounded by the fact that the process of ordering fields for layouts is buggy or at the very least cumbersome. So now I’ll remove hours of work, and redo it, hoping that it doesn’t just happen again, to my client when the site is live?

Maybe I missed a thread that provided better insight into the issue. If so, I apologize. Can someone kindly point me to the thread that may shed light on this (the cause, how to prevent it, a bug fix note for a newer version?).

    I’m running 2.2.0. If it’s fixed in a newer version I’ll upgrade.

    Hi, miromo.

It won’t hurt to upgrade to 2.3.1, there are a number of bug fixes in there. Perhaps not for the problem you’r experiencing. Let’s see if we can find out what the invalid characters in the short names is being caused by. I know it’s very frustrating.
