My client keeps getting logged out

    Hello

    I am using EE v2.3.1.

My client keeps getting logged out when posting a new entry. I asked her to take note of her IP address before and after posting and it’s always changing. This is happening to her around 10 times per day and she’s losing a lot of work.

So far, I have updated the following settings:

Control Panel Session Type Cookies and session ID
User Session Type Cookies and session ID
Allow multiple log-ins from a single account? Yes
Require IP Address and User Agent for Login? No
Require IP Address and User Agent for posting? No

But she’s still being logged out!

She worked from home yesterday as she was unable to cope with this and had no problems whatsoever.

I’m 99% sure it’s IP address related as it keeps changing.

Short of telling them to get a fixed IP address, are there any other settings I can change?

    Regards
    Chris

Hi, Chris. Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums!

I tend to use Cookies only for both session types. You’ve already added the fix for not requiring IP addresses. Have her give those settings a try.

    Hi Sue

Many thanks for the reply and thanks for the welcome!

Unfortunately I cannot use Cookies only because I need to allow multiple logins to the same account:

Allow multiple log-ins from a single account?
Determines whether more than one person can simultaneously access the system using the same user account. Note: If your Session Type above is set to “Cookies Only” this feature will not work.

Are there any other things I can try?

    Many thanks
    Chris

Is there a reason why you can’t just create a different account for each content author?

    Hi Sue

Mainly because there are 4 other people that “ghost write” on behalf of this author and they can be doing this at any time.

    Many thanks
    Chris

    Hi SCSMarketing,

I know this issue can be frustrating and I appreciate your need to share a single login. I may have a solution that can offer some relief. If you open /system/expressionengine/config/config.php

Near line 24 add this value:

    $config['cp_session_ttl'] = 600;

The value is expressed in seconds, so in the example is 10mins. Feel free to adjust the value to something high like 3600, which is 1 hour. For you reference, Control Panel Time-to-live.

Let us know if that offers you any relief.

    Thanks!
