I have been trying to track this down for months with no success so I figure I should ask here next.

Anyway, I have a group set up called “Authors”.  They have rights to create entries in all channels.

Some authors can never successfully submit entries.  They fill everything out click submit and nothing happens.  Other authors and myself do not have this problem at all.

I’ve asked for browser information, etc. and have yet to find a common thread to it all.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this before?

    Regards,
    Tom

    Hi, Tom.

If you try to log in as one of the people having this issue, can you replicate the problem they’re having? Are they behind a firewall, or might their IP address be changing?

What changes if any have you made to the default settings for EE?

    What are your settings for

Require IP Address and User Agent for Login?
Require IP Address and User Agent for posting?

    Also see: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/troubleshooting/error_messages/you_are_not_authorized_to_perform_this_action.html

    Does that help?

If I log in as the user and impersonate them via the control panel I cannot replicate the behavior, I never have a problem.  They don’t get the “you are not authorized…” error, just when they go to post an entry, they click submit and it doesn’t post.  No error, no nothing.

I have “Require IP Address and User Agent for Login?” set to “Yes” but do not see an option for “Require IP Address and User Agent for posting?”

Also, I haven’t made a note of what default settings I’ve changed, but it’s not many, if any at all.

    Hi TomT,

I’m sorry your users are experiencing this issue, it is certainly frustrating! In order to get this moving forward, can you let me know the version of ExpressionEngine you are seeing this on? Also, do you have information on the browser and OS your users are seeing this on?

...but do not see an option for “Require IP Address and User Agent for posting?”

Sorry for the confusion here Tom, that setting is located in Admin-> Security and Privacy-> Security and Sessions: Require IP Address and User Agent for posting?

    Thanks for your patience!

    Dan, I am running:

    Installed: 2.1.3 Build 20110411

As far as browser and OS, I’ve been told a mixture of OS X, Windows and Firefox, IE.

Still can’t find that setting “Require IP Address and User Agent for posting?” setting on the Security and Sessions page:

    Hi TomT,

Oh, wow. That is bizarre! It should show up right under “Require IP Address and User Agent for Login?” No worries, we can try a different route! In /system/expressionengine/config/config.php , near line 24, add:

    $config[require_ip_for_posting] = 'y';

And let us know if the issue persists.

    Thanks!
