EE for us was not particularly fast to start out, but something happened within the last week or so that is causing tremendous lag. We’re running version 2.1.3. I was going to see if updating would help, but I cannot even get to the necessary control panel pages. It could be our host, but I would not have a clue where to begin looking.

I turned on template debugging and it looks like the biggest lag is when it calls “entries” to when that data is returned.

    Hi kbetker,

Can you post the template code that is affecting your performance? Sharing your template code with us would give us a chance to offer some tips on optimization. Do you happen to be hosted on a shared server?

    Cheers,

Thanks Dan. I would gladly take advice for optimizing my template, but that shouldn’t effect the control panel right? It’s a little faster today (between 10 and 20 seconds to load each page). Yesterday it was between 30 seconds and not at all. Since it was the control panel and the blog that was slow and not the other static pages on our site, I assumed it was something with the database. Anyway, I’ve attached a .txt file of our template. Also, I believe we are on a shared server. Thanks! - Kevin

    Hi Kevin,

It looks like that link is dead, so I’m not able to see the HTML. Perhaps you could use something like http://pastie.org to share it with us?

If the slowdown is happening both on the front-end of the site as well as the CP, I would first look at the add-ons you have installed on your site. Try globally disabling extensions to see if it might be one of your extensions that’s causing the slowdown. Do some testing to narrow down the potential causes.

The second place I would look is at the server itself. It may be that the server just isn’t powerful enough to handle whatever you’re trying to throw at it, the traffic you’re receiving, or a combination of the two.

    Here’s the code on Pastie:

I did not have extensions enabled at any point. It just seems weird the other pages load fine. Thanks - Kevin

    Hi, kbetker -

There are a few slowdowns in your output parsing; however, I"m more concerned about the CP access.  You can’t get there at all?  What I’d like to do is start off by turning off the new version auto check.  If external connections are off then that could be slowing you down.

Another thing to confirm easily is to clear our your system/expressionengine/cache folders and reset them to 777.  Sometimes the permissions get stuck which can cause considerable slowdowns.
