    Hi, i created a test forum for one project that we have ongoing and it needs soon forum area also. I set it to use thumbnails with image attachments, so that the image itself can be 1200x1200px, and the thumbs are set to 800x800px.

    But when i upload image, it sure shows up the thumbnail, but it is the same size than the original. I checked this from the folder where i set all images going. I downloaded those 2 files (original and thumb) and = they are very same size, that thumb is not 800x800px max,

    so whats might be going on here?

    There is nothing wrong that i can spot, on the thump template, code below:

    So it has to be something that is wrong while uploading image itself. Thats because it doesnt resize the thumb version of image.

    Hi Pete,

    I just tried this on a brand new install of 2.3.1 and had no problems with image attachments resizing in a forum.

    Are you setting the preferences by going to Add-Ons > Modules > Discussion Forum > Edit Forum Boards > Edit Board > Attachment Preferences?

    Is this a brand new install of ExpressionEngine or an update you have going here?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    its not brand new, been online since 2007 😊 So it is an upgrade. And yes, i have set the prefs from there. (edit board/attachment prefs).

    Hi Pete,

    When you say it’s an upgraded site are you on the latest current version of 2.3.1?

    If not then could you please update to that version and see if the problem still exists. I’ve tested this in a brand new install of 2.3.1 and the thumbnail versions of the images are definitely being set to the correct size for me.

    Did you try control clicking on the thumbnail version of the image in the forum thread and opening it in a new window just to ensure that it is indeed larger than it should be?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Im running the latest. And yes, i checked it. The thumb is very same size in pixels than the original that comes out in popup. So thats why i wonder why EE does not resize thumbs. And in the “site” side, when using file module with image manipulation, all works as should (file module does the resizing correctly) so it is not server side issue - meaning that this is something to do with the forum module in my case, i think.

    Oh, and this is my 3rd board what is under this issue. Other 2 do not use thumbs because they get thumbs other way.

    And to be clear here, the codes i use, do not mess EEs core no way and i have no modifications in Thumb attachments.html template.

    In Image attachments.html i have this code if you are logged in:

    {if logged_in}
    {attach_image_url}
    {/if}

    so should there be something to point out the thumbs?
    If so, hit me with the default code, thanks.

    Further, that do not take away the issue, that the actual thumb-file that has been created in upload process, isnt smaller at all, its very same size than the original attached image.

    Hi Pete,

    Just want to make sure that we’re definitely talking about the same thing here. I’ve attached a quick screenshot of what I think we’re both referring to here (image attachments in a forum post).

    Could you just confirm that this is indeed what you mean here?

    Also when you say your other two forum boards use a different method to get thumbnails, what is this exactly? An extension or something else?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    yes, when i attach image to forum posts, the thumbnail that is generated, is same size than original. I checked this via FTP and DLed those 2 files, thumb and original to be dead sure they really are same size.

    What comes to other boards, i use this code(filename changed):

    {if logged_out} /somefile.php?string={attach_image_url}{/if}

    But that does not infect EE itself by any way - it just gets images from different location(folder). What i remember, this didnt affect anything back when i was testing the thumbs with previous versions of EE. One thing of course, is that i duplicate my theme-folder and rename it just to be used with 3ed board and see if it helps to get the codes of that now are in use at my primary forum.

    I’ll do that and report back to be sure…

    Just a quick note to let everyone know that we’re working with Pete on this privately and will update the forum thread here once a solution has been found.

    Thanks,

    I have this issue now as well.  I have not touched any of the code, just upgraded a few weeks back to 3.1.7.  Now all my image attachments show full size in the forum and not thumbnails.

    i was able to hardcode dimensions into the image_attachment.html file to keep the file size down, but there is no link anymore either to make the full size come up. so i am not sure what to do with these attachements.  I know it worked well before the upgrade. I just haven’t tried it until i notice a member upload a image and it was huge.

    i just looked in the folder where the attachments go.  It does not look like its creating the thumbs anymore.  I do not see the _t.jpg or whatever files created.  Any ideas on what to look at to see what might have happened to this?
