How do you handle EE-licenses for clients?

I thought of something today I wanted to went and see what you guys prefer.

I try to get all my clients to buy their own EE-licenses, with their own account the same way I make them buy their own hosting for easy management (they’re on the actual contract etc.).

Then I realize… is this really clever? I think I have around 20 different clients w/ their own license instead of them being under my account. Is there a drawback to this?

    What do you guys prefer?

If you buy the license under your account you can increase the number of purchased licenses which will eventually lead to discounts. Then you can sign your client up, or have them sign up and contact EllisLab and have them transfer the license.

I was afraid something like that could happen. Darn… you think EllisLab will be merciful and give me a discount if I email them a bunch of license keys now afterwards? 😊

    Hi, esset,

Unfortunately you’ll need the licenses actually on your account as it is all handled automatically by our store.

I assumed that. Heck, can’t blame a guy for trying though.. right? 😉

Will have to change my license acquiring routine from now on.
