    Hello,

I’m looking for a way to import contacts from services as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, facebook, etc. for use in the tell-a-friend form.
We would like the user to be able to select his friends from a list, rather than having to remember and manually type the adresses of the friends he wants to send an invite.

http://openinviter.com/ provides a plugin for about one thousand CMSs but unfortunately EE is not listed.

http://www.smartaddon.com/ looks good, but I’d rather pay once than a monthly fee.

    Any ideas ?

If on admin side then you can import members just into a separate group called ‘contacts’?
Then you can use Tool -> Communicate to send en mail out.
Now if you want your standard site members/users to do this then look for some plugins.

My question must be confusing, as your answer has nothing to do with what I’m trying to achieve.

    I’ll try harder :

When a member uses the tell-a-friend form, he has to remember and manually type the adresses of the friends he wants to send an invite. Instead, we would like to allow him to import contacts from an email service or a social network.

Again, there are several plugins for wordpress, but we found nothing for EE that would do that.

Does it make any sense now ?

I got you the first time, just though to offer an alternative.
There is no way out out of the box and ‘tell-a-friend’ is not the same as an ‘invite’ system you want to make out of it, it is more of a ‘share content’ feature.
Tell-a-friend is just an email form and the only way that EE ‘stores’ any info or creates ‘contacts’ would be through creating ‘buddies’ in forum and again only from existing members...hence my useless post above about import member business.

I think that this would require a custom module to match your exact workflow…this is as far as I can take you, good luck.
