retain field formatting - using query module

I have a custom field set to “Auto BR”. When I use the channel entries tag to display this field, the proper field formatting comes through.

When I do a custom query using the query module and display the same field, it is not rendering BR tags where there should be. The query itself is working fine.

Is there a way I can get the field formatting to render with the custom query?

    Thanks!

    Hi nadea.c,

When you use the Query module to bring back information then this is always brought back without any formatting applied. The Channel Entries Tag has extra work that goes on behind the scenes to use the formatting information and render it.

The Query module is meant for when you need access to items that are harder to get to using the built-in methods.

Do you have to use a query here to get what you are after or would you perhaps be better off using the Channel Entries Tag in this instance?

That said there is a plugin here called the XHTML Typography Plugin which is a 1st party plugin whereby if you have double line-breaks then they will be converted to paragraphs for you using that plugin code.

This or perhaps the 3rd party add-on called Custom Typography might help here.

I’m afraid we wouldn’t be able to offer any assistance with the 3rd party add-on though and all queries regarding that would need to be directed towards the author of that add-on.

Does that help a bit though?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

That was my hunch, thanks for confirming. I have brainstormed all my options for this query, and right now, the custom query appears to be necessary.

I will look into the 3rd party tools that you refer to, though. And no worries about not offering support for those.

    Thanks!

    Hi Nadea.c,

No problems. Hopefully one of those options will work out for you.

I’m going to close out this thread now but if anything else crops up then please don’t hesitate to post again as needed.

    Cheers,

    Mark
