    Hello,

This is the first time I have hit a wall with EE in 18 months of use. With that in mind I’ve spent a good couple of days on this one problem already. I’ve updated to the latest release of EE this morning and all plugins with it.

Intermittently (but almost 100% of time with Chrome) I and other CP users will try editing an entry (so creation is fine) and rather than changes being saved etc as normal upon submit, the homepage of the site is returned.

After a lot of searching I havent found mention of this problem before, has anyone seen anything like this or could at least point me in the right direction? Any advise would be welcome. As it stands im moving the whole site to another server at the moment to see if that makes any shred of difference. I thought cached redirects etc, maybe htaccess weirdness, but nothing out of the ordinary there - and the site used to work fine.

I have a horrible suspicion that this is Structure related, although its a great module and fills in a huge usability gap where the customer is concerned, it has caused me the most pain in terms of errors in the past on other projects.

    Thanks,

    Andy.

    Hi Andy,

What extensions do you have installed?
Do you have any of the Structure prefs set that relate to where to redirect after editing an entry?

can you confirm if the entry changes save and it is just the redirection issue we are dealing with?

    Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. No the data is not saving so its not really a redirect issue and I have previously trie deactivating structures redirects.

It occurred to me this morning this ‘feels’ like EE trying to supply one of its own 404’s in the way that it does. Sure enough if I change the template 404 setting I see which ever template is selected when submitting the failing forms. To be honest there shouldn’t be an error in the first place, and why the CP is using the front-end error settings is beyond me. This does at least give me something to go on.

Plugins: Antenna, Firemail, low_reorder, matrix, structure, switchee, trunchtml, wymeditor.

I have suspicions about Wymeditor, but wish there was a way of deactivating custom field-types (or any addon for that matter) instead of having to uninstall them loosing all their data, to see how the system would perform without them.

In any case, let me know if you have any thoughts and if I come up with a culprit/solution I shall let you know.

    Thanks again,

    Andy.

    Hi Andy,

I’ve had this happen to me before on some sites. The problem was that an overly cautious server administrator had put into place a rather restrictive set of mod_security rules. It caused my server to kick back a 500 error when certain entries were saved, but the effect was that it pulled up the site’s homepage. It took a while to figure out, indeed.

Could you check with your host to see if saving entries in the CP might be throwing a 500 Internal Server Error?

    Thanks Kevin,

Having since asked the host, that sounds spot on. Apparently the account was “set up watertight and features have been released as required”. Rather than change his shared box affecting other sites on there I’ve moved the site to my hosting and early usage indicates the problem is resolved. I still dont understand why this problem would have been intermittent, but this far down the line im just pleased to see the back of it!

    Andy.
