I installed Agile Records with initial EE install. Installation went perfectly. I now want to experiment with some other templates. I uploaded a new EE template in the themes folder alongside Agile Records, but I cannot find it on the control panel. I wish to switch back and forth between templates until I get code for new template perfected. Please advise.

I just noted that by installing a new template in the templates folder, somehow my homepage is now blank even though Agile Records is showing up as the member preference.

    Hi MikeCJ,

When you say you uploaded a new template can you possibly expand exactly what you did here?

ExpressionEngine doesn’t work with templates in the same way as other systems so we just need to know what you’ve done here in order to get you going again.

The main themes folder isn’t actually for templates that will be used on the front-end of your site but for affecting the look of the Control Panel, profiles, wiki themes and so on.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I uploaded a new template into themes/site_themes directory where the Agile Records theme was located. After being unable to access new template, and ending up with a blank home page, I deleted the new theme from the file and set member preference back to Agile Records, but still the blank screen.

I must be using the wrong terms for EE forum because “template installation” brings up little info.

Please correct my terminology and direct me toward the correct tutorials.
    Thanks

    Hi Mike,

There is some confusion here due to the nature of the Agile Records templates. Those are stored where they are so that they can be installed if desired during ExpressionEngine’s initial installation. However, that is not the standard way templates are used with ExpressionEngine.

Typically, EE templates are stored and accessed via the Template Manager in the Control Panel: Design-> Template Manager From there you will create temp ate groups and templates that match your new themes structure. Once that is finished, you will then copy and paste the contents of the theme files into the corresponding templates in your Template Manager.
