    Hi,

I tried to upgrade my 1.X version of EE to 2.X yesterday but I had problems with the install (system errors, particularly with index.php). At one point, I was able to login to the 2.X version but there were errors in the backend. Now I would like to go back to the my EE 1.X. I don’t want a clean install because I do have ExpressionEngine templates back there. Can someone please help me?

    Thanks.

    scoleman,

I’m sorry to see you had trouble with the 2.2.2 upgrade. If you could describe the errors you are having, we could get you up an running on 2.x. However, if you still want to roll back: You’ll need to drop your database and reload it with the backup you captured before you upgraded, then replace your site files with the backup files you captured before you uploaded 2.2.2 If for some reason you don’t have those backups, the only thing we’ll be able to do is get you up and running on 2.2.2.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for responding. I’d like to go back to EE 1.X for now. I had backed up my entire web directory and it is saved in a tar gz format. What should I do next/ how do I unzip that? Also, would it be possible to move the EE files to a subdomain on my site?

Let’s do one thing at a time. Let’s work first on getting your site back and running in EE 1, upgrade it to EE 2, then we can work with you to get it on a subdomain.

I’m not sure how your backup/restore system works. Could you describe the process you went through to back it up? You might also have some luck working with your host to restore your site files. They may have a more streamlined process that helps in doing so, so I’d check with them first.

You might also want to review this article on troubleshooting upgrade errors before you dive in.
