Hello guys,

first of all if necesarily excuse my english (i’m romanian) 😊

i have a small website featuring reggae news… it started as a very simple and personal blog on wp a couple of years ago, and it grew little by little…

what i want to do, is to give up wordpress, because i want to make a sort of “imdb” of reggae music
i want to index artists, labels, promoters, discographies, videographies, biographies, from the begining of reggae music, history, traditions… all the way to the latest news, releases, events, etc…

some friends recomended drupal wich is a bit more complex than wp and probably would do a better job in what i have in mind.. (i have no experience with drupal whatsoever)

a friend of mine recomended me code igniter… from what i’ve read here and there, it is kind of hard to work with for a begginer, but it’s better because i can build on it exactly how i want it

my question would be, what would you recomend to do? i don’t want to start with drupal and then realizin that it might of been better using my own custom config or something build from scratch to suit my needs

and if i chose to start this hard “journey” with code igniter, what would you recomend me to start reading to help me begin my work?

If you want to make a program using CI, you should know about php first.Intermediate level preferred, php until advanced, it’s better. Because CI just a framework and using PHP. Using CI, you often find php style, such as using array,variable,control (looping, if ... endif,etc) and sql. You have to know html and css too also a database, Mysql for example. Javascript knowledge is important too. Yeah, php,html,css,sql/database and javascript.

First of all, try to learn algorithm,html and php. You can find out html and php tutorial wheteher online or in printed source.

You can all this stuff with Wordpress also. you just need a wordpress developer or learn it all by yourself .
