it used to be when I tried to delete a forum member who had posts, it would warm me in the deletion screen.

Now it just let’s me delete them and their posts without warning.

Is there a setting for this? 1.7.1 EE and 2.2.0 Discussion Forum…

    Hi Craig,

To confirm. This is when you goto delete a member via CP Home ›  Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  View Members ?
Its a member deletion regardless of whether they are a member of the forum or not?

I can’t replicate this on my own install so lets work out what’s different.

Do you have any extensions installed?
This site has been upgraded right?
Can you try reuploading the system/modules/member folder?

OK, when I do it that way, it does give me the message…

I fiddled around with it some more and here is the behavior I am asking about - perhaps it is normal or a setting.

A newer user with posts does not give me that message.

Example - User 1 has 20 posts from a year ago - I get the notice when I try to delete.
User 2 signed up 2 days ago and posted 2 spam posts….I delete and get no message about their posts….

    Does that sound right?

    Hi Craig,

You said above that when you tried the method that John Henry mentioned that you did get the message.

Were you trying to delete members in some other way prior to that then?

If so can you let us know how you were achieving that. Also as John mentioned above do you have any extensions installed on the site which might be affecting this?

    Thanks,

    Mark

I checked it out again, and the same behavior happens no matter how I try to delete - that is, from the regular control panel listing, etc….or by the more detailed member info, etc.

The behavior seems to be simply this.

    1. I started a new account for myself and posted a topic and a reply to it.
    2. I then went to delete it in multiple ways, and no warning was given.

However, on older member - like an account I started long ago, it does give me the warning.

I don’t have many extensions installed…this behavior may have been happening for a long time - I may have just noticed it.

So, to start somewhere….on your own install(s), if you enter a new member acct, post one thread on the forum, and then try to delete it…you always get the warning?
    and
Are there any settings anywhere about this warning, or it is just a system level thing?

I’m not going to pull my hair out about this one…just something I noticed which made me wonder.

    Hi Craig,

When you say the more detailed information do you mean - Members > View All or Members > View All > Username > Member Administration > Delete?

When you say regular CP listing I guess you mean the Members > View All screen?

You mentioned having extensions installed. Which ones do you have?

You should definitely be getting warnings when attempting to delete anything in ExpressionEngine and I just tried all the methods outlined above and got a message each time. I don’t believe there are any settings which would allow you to turn off the messages so if we can it would be best to try and fix this if possible.

    Thanks,

    Mark

The more detailed info is when you search for member and then bring up their screen….or when you view all members and then click on one name.

It definitely seems to relate to the age of the posts…..NOT of the member. Today I had a member who signed up 2 years ago - and posted nothing back then - post a couple SPAM messages. No message was received when he was deleted, even though the messages exist.

ALL of my mentions here and the original post have to do with discussion forum posts only….

So, let’s be clear. If you use the 1.x EE and have a discussion forum…and sign up as a new member, make a post or two, and then try to delete that member, you get the message warning about deleted posts?

I’m wondering if it is some sort of cache or index thing - that is, maybe posts made very recently are not somehow in the db that the delete script looks at? However, I do notice that the post count is correct when I look at the member info before I delete them. In other words, it may show 3 posts….but I still get no warning when I delete that member.

Again, no big deal on my end because I am pretty careful about deletions…..it’s just something I noticed.

    Hi handyman,

I’m just going to perform an install of 1.7.1 and the 2.2.0 forums and see if I can replicate this for you.

    Thanks,

    Mark
