    Hi,

I’d like to build a project and test it on a development server, then migrate it over to the production server that will eventually go live. Since this is a common practice, my hope is that I don’t have to buy two commercial licenses, just one. (since the dev server won’t technically be a live site, and will go away after launch).

Can you please confirm? Also, how difficult is this to do? Is the process documented?

    Hey guys,

Have a look at this part of our license:

An ExpressionEngine license purchase allows a single “live” installation in a production environment and ancillary “development use only” installations as needed to support the live installation (such as development and a staging servers). Additional installations require additional license purchases. If you have specific installation needs not covered by this license, please Contact Us.

And of course, welcome to the forums, Isthmos!

So yes, you can have a staging site and a live site, no additional license needed.

    Does that help?
