Any known issues with IE being unable to log in on secondary MSM sites?

    Hello,

I have an MSM site where users are able to log in on the main site, but some users (most of whom seem to be using Internet Explorer) are reporting being unable to log in on one of the secondary sites.

I have confirmed that other major browsers (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) can log in on the secondary site, and that IE9 cannot. Can anyone think of reasons why this might be?

    Any and all advice welcome!

    Hi Garden-variety Fool,

I don’t know of any bugs specific to IE9 right off hand. Can you give me a little more information about your setup? What version of ExpressionEngine and MSM are you running? If your IE users are logged in to the main site, can they switch to a secondary site using the MSM menu in the upper right-hand of the Control Panel?

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the response, Dan!

This is occurring on the latest releases of EE/MSM.

The users in question are not ones who have access to the control panel, so they are attempting to log into the public-facing sites in both cases. In the case of the first site, they can log in, but they can’t on the second site with IE (I happened to be using IE9 because I like to keep my system up to date, but I haven’t yet checked which versions they have been using).

I was wondering if it might have something to do with using domain-wide cookies in the EE security settings. Think that might have anything to do with it, or am I completely off base there?

    Hi Garden-variety Fool,

Are your MSM sites on sub-domains or completely different domains? I recommend that each site in MSM have cookie settings that are specific to that site. That way we can definitely rule out cookies being overwritten or any other potential conflicts.

Back to your original post, we have had other users today posting that MSM and IE aren’t playing nice with one another, so we may be at the start of trend that leads to finding some bugs.

    Cheers,
