I’m thinking about making a wholesale changes to a large website URLs from underscores to dashes for SEO purposes. Is this recommended? If there is no harm in it, can someone point me to the resources to do this e.g. redirects scripts or add-ons?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi, liftalee.

Are you wanting to manually make the changes in the database? If you’d be needing to make any sort of .htaccess changes, I’ll need to move this to the Community Help forum for additional community support.

It’s simple. I just want to change the URL separators to dashes as opposed to underscores. Anyway that this can be achieved will suffice. I doubt that this can be achieve without the use of redirects, but I’m just checking?

There isn’t any way of doing this automatically other than by using something like PHPMyAdmin to make the change via an SQL query. You could change the setting to dashes, and set your newer articles to use that instead. Otherwise you’d need to create redirects, which we can’t offer direct support for creating.

I did think of something.. if you edit the entry, and manually remove the url_title, resaving will use dashes instead of underscores.
