As posted by Lee Goldberg on our blog:

Developers choose ExpressionEngine as their CMS of choice for many reasons. The flexibility, open architecture, outstanding community, and overall structure of the product are indeed second to none. While we at Vector Media Group love the platform for all of the reasons listed above, ExpressionEngine has something else going for it that many web professionals often overlook: Outstanding SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Some of you know us, Vector Media Group, as a development firm focused on ExpressionEngine. But we also do a significant amount of online marketing and SEO work. In fact, the SEO features built into ExpressionEngine are one of the primary reasons why we’ve chosen EE as our platform of choice. In this post, we’re going to highlight some of the reasons why EE rocks for SEO.

Even setting up advanced subdomain tracking, custom variables, and event tracking is painless, taking minutes where other systems take hours.

Do you know of any good guides or resources for setting up subdomain tracking with GA? It’s something that I looked into recently and only came up with conflicting advice.

This is a very complex topic, with many different configuration methods depending on your needs, but for good general info, check this out: http://www.roirevolution.com/blog/2011/01/google_analytics_subdomain_tracking.php

What’s the best way to achieve some of the things you talk about in the post, such as creating a sitemap or doing custom meta tags for each page. Can you point me in the right direction?

    Hi socialjoe,

I’m Lee’s partner at Vector Media Group.

For sitemaps, we usually just use a regular ExpressionEngine template and then exp:channel:entries tags to output the XML. We follow the official Sitemap Protocol when creating it. There are also some modules for doing this.

For custom metas, we like to use embed variables on our header include, or, if the client wants more control, NSM Better Meta.

    I hope that helps!

    Sincerely,
    Matt
