Would it be stupid to mixe future posts of an eventcalendar with articles describing what happened on those future events once they occured?

I am asking because it seems the editors of the site are confused with ExpressionEngine and all the channels. They want a website but the dont want to engage in how run it. Ofcourse I could do a lot better educating them but still I trying to find out ways to simplify things.

One such simplification could, maybe, be to merge the two channels ‘Articles’ and ‘Upcomming’. So I was thinking of having one set of fields for the upcomming event and one set of fields for the article and then on the upcomming template only show the upcomming set.

This way it could perhaps be easier for the editors to add info to the event once it has occured and…  well I hope you get the idea.

Will I shoot myself in the foot doing this way or is it perhaps a common way of doing things?

You can certainly have a single channel and add a field for event_results or whatever you want to call it. You can check to see if there is something in that field, and if the event is in the past, display that field. It does rely on your content providers needing to edit existing entries after the event to ad that extra info. Will it work? Hard to tell with clients sometimes. 😊 The theory looks OK though.
