    Hi EE Support,

We received a few messages today from our members that when trying to add a forum post they received the error

‘Computer says your input might be spam, so it was discarded.’

I’ve logged in & tested it myself & got the same result.

Attached you will find a screen shot of the post I attempted with.  I don’t see anything that jumps out to me that is spamy.

Please help, we don’t want this to happen to any more users than it already has!!

In trying to think of what changed recently, I remembered that we added the no low spam module.

Is there a super spam security option that I have on & am just missing it?

    Hi BrunoBoys,

I must admit that I’ve not used that module before so don’t know much about it and we can’t offer support in the forums here for 3rd party add-ons. You would need to contact the developer of that add-on in order to get support.

That said from looking at your post the only thing that jumps out at me is the dropping. This may be being picked up as it is a main word used in databases to completely delete a table.

This might be what is causing the issue although I’m not sure as I’ve not used that module before.

I’d therefore advise contacting the developer for more information on this.

I’m going to move this post over to the Community Help forums in order to get some more eyes on this for you too.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I tried that module and removed it right away…....something similar happened…....

There are many ways to handle forum and other spammers, but IMHO this is not the right way…..you can dig around and find some other hints, but basically….

    1. Approve each new member manually….if you look at certain info, like their IP, username and email, you can often sniff out that they are spammers.
    2. Exclude IP blocks from areas of the world that you don’t serve in the blacklist, country thingy, etc.
3.Use the “member” utility to see if people populate their bios or URL’s with spam.

After that, you can usually rely on the member utilities:
    http://www.purple-dogfish.co.uk/docs/member-utilities-1.x/index.html

    That is for 1.x.
If you have 2, then you might have similar or other options.
The custom captcha is a neat trick - that is, ask a question that every real user of your site might know the answer to, but that some dude from Pakistan (or where ever you want to exclude) does not.

    Thanks.

I figured that after I realized what it was.
