Just wondering if this is possible - example: I have my News channel on http://www.site.com, I want to export those entries so I can import them to dev.site.com to keep it parallel with the live site. Is this possible?

(they don’t share a database for testing purposes).

    icd2k3,

Datagrab is a third-party offering that allows you to grab csv, xml etc and import them as entries into your site. It has a cron job feature so you could automate this.

Thanks for the tip John, I’m reading over the documentation - just so I get this straight, it’s not really an export > import tool right? you just tell it where to import the data from and let it run?

My example would be setting it up on my dev domain to import posts from the live domain?

Upon installing and reading the docs for DataGrab, it looks to be only an import tool… is there any way to export channel data in EE2?

It is a one way method - I use for instance an RSS feed as the source. You’d use DataGab on the newer site to do the import.

    Does that help?

Yep, thanks guys, looking into setting up a template to export CSV as well..

Any plans on including an import/export feature in a later release of EE?

    Hi icd2k3,

Regarding plans on adding import / export options to ExpressionEngine I’m afraid we don’t have any information on that side of things.

Please do feel free to add a Feature Request for that though as I know this would be a good thing to have. We can’t say that a Feature Request would definitely be added though but please do go ahead and add one if you like.

Just wanted to know if you’re all set now with the advice from John & Sue here?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Thanks for letting us know and no problems, that’s what we’re here for 😉

Closing thread now but if anything else crops up then please don’t hesitate to post again as needed.

    Thanks,

    Mark
