No way to customize the publish page layout

I can’t in no way save the changes i made to the layout in a publish page. The group doesn’t matter. No error, no message. The “reset layout” does, however, work.

    Any thoughts?

Hi Eelco, if you try to make just one single change and save it, does that work? Are you using any sort of third party fieldtypes? If so, are those fieldtypes up to the most recent version?

One single change, two or three; doesn’t make any difference/ I’m using third party field types. They’re up to date.

Hmmm… about all I would do would be to try creating a channel with just the standard custom fields, and see if that works. Are you using any sort of third party extensions that might be contributing to the problem?

No, luck. Also a simple publish layouy -title, textarea- doesn’t work.

For what’s it worth: the status of the page says: “canceled opening the page”. But everything is working as expected, except for the page customization.

These are the extensions i’m using: Low Seg2Cat, Rating, Rating Code Pack, SafeCracker.

    Hi Eelco,

You mentioned above the status of the page being “cancelled opening the page”.

As far as I’m aware ExpressionEngine doesn’t have any error messages to this effect so I’m wondering if perhaps this is due to your internet connection maybe?

If the page isn’t fully loading then this could definitely be contributing to your problems with customising the layouts.

Could you possibly try loading the site on another browser and internet connection just to ensure that message doesn’t come up again.

    Thanks,

    Mark

The message shows up in Safari’s status bar. I thought it was an addon with fieldtypes i’m using, but the publish page on an other channel -without the fieldtypes- also didn’t work.
I’ve also tried on Firefox and noticed that -when hovering over the “save layout” button- there is an url given in the status bar, which didn’t happen in Safari.
I’m using the latest versions of both mentioned browsers.

    Eelco,

What version and build of EE are you using?
is this a fresh install or and upgrade from a previous version or build?

    Eelco,

“cancelled opening the page” is a Safari notice. It’s the same notice given if you stop loading the page by clicking the “x” in Safari’s location bar.

Can you try your custom layouts in Firefox? Let’s make sure we’re not having a browser related issue.

    Cheers,

    Dan,

I already tried Firefox—I’ve even tried Chrome.

I’ve also tried on Firefox and noticed that -when hovering over the “save layout” button- there is an url given in the status bar, which didn’t happen in Safari.

Point is, that everything works fine: I can make entries, save them, edit them. I also am able to change the layout of the publish page, but can’t in any browser save the customizations. In both Firefox and Chrome I see an URL when hovering over the “Save” button. In Safari I only see a “#”.

    Eelco,

I’m sorry for the confusion. You didn’t state that you had attempted to “save”, merely that you had “hovered” over the link. All apologies. After reading back through, you might have some success with a fresh copy of the /themes folder. Could you try uploading that and replacing the themes directory on your server with a new one? Thank you for your patience.

    Cheers,

Just tried that, but I did something wrong or something went wrong. I got a screen where a CSS seemed missing.

    Eelco,

Definitely something went wrong… Let’s have you download a fresh copy of ExpressionEngine first. After you unzip that, upload the /themes directory from that download. I know this seems like repetition, but something obviously got lost in FTP along the way. This will also eliminate any potential corruption in your stored copy. Thanks for your patience!

    Cheers,

Dan, I’ve excluded the third_party folder when uploading. Don’t think that had something to do with it?
I’ll give it a try later today.
