Filter by a custom status

I am trying to filter within the control panel by custom status. I searched the forums and found this

Which I understand, but the issue is every single channel is assigned to the same status group, which is the default status group. The custom status was added to that and I need to be able to filter every channel entry site wide based on this custom status. Is it possible?

Hi mattgreen110,
Out of the box, no. It filters by status after a Channel choice

Have you seen Zenbu? it allows you to save filter searches and much more.
