I have followed the upgrade process instructions (http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/installation/update.html) to go from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2. After uploading and modifying all the files I went to the install wizard via my admin.php page.  After clicking through it takes me to my 404 page (page not found).

    Any ideas?

    Hi jaredw,

Could you give us some more details? Does the install wizard come up at all? If so, at what point do you get a 404? What’s the URL when you’re at the 404 (you can change your domain name to example.com before you post, if you like)?

Do you have your system folder renamed or placed in a different place than normal? Have you made sure your path in admin.php is set up properly?

Yes, the install wizard does come up.  I’m able to click through and accept the “backup” warning that comes up.  It then goes to my custom Page Not Found webpage at this URL:

    http://example.com/admin.php?C=wizard&M=license&language=english

My system folder is renamed, and I’ve copied its path (which is one level above the root) from the old admin and index file to the new admin and index file.

    Thanks for the help.

That’s rather odd. Ok, be on the lookout for an email from me. I’m gonna grab a look at this first-hand.

Just checking in to see if you got the email from me and were able to act on it. Something may have gotten lost in the wires, and I want to make sure we don’t both end up waiting on each other!

    Hi Jared,

I just tried upgrading on your site, and I’m running into the same problem. When I disable your .htaccess file, I get a little big clearer error. It’s actually not a 404, it’s a 403 Forbidden error with an additional 404 error. I’ve seen 403 Forbidden errors before when the host has various security provisions in place. Could you check with your host to see if they have anything in mod_security that might cause this? Do they have suPHP enabled?

You might also try moving your system directory to the web root and then attempt an upgrade again, just for the sake of troubleshooting. Keep us posted on what you hear back from your host!

Sounds good, post back here with an update when you hear from them!

The host company said “The site was hitting a mod security rule and I have whitelisted the rule for the domain.”

So after the fix from the host, I was able to successfully run the update.  I’m all set.  Thanks for helping to troubleshoot.
