I am using the latest version of the Discussion Forum Module from EE. I am using the default template for the forum, and when I try to PM someone there is some type of JavaScript running that is clearing the body of my message as I type. What could be doing this? Please Help!!!

Hi Gamer000, I just decided to send a PM and can’t replicate the problem you’re having with a stock install of the forum module. Have you tried with a different browser to see if that makes a difference?

No, I will try using another browser. I currently use FireFox version 6.0.

All I know for sure right now is there is a JavaScript causing the problem, I tested this by disabling JavaScript in Firefox and then tried typing in the message box, without JavaScript on it let me type.

I just tried it in Internet Explorer 9 and encountered the same issue. I’ve had members send me PM’s before, but I’ve also had a few complain about this problem.

So, I am running EE v2.2.2, with Discussion module v3.1.5, and after testing in IE9 and Firefox 6 encounter the same problem with the message body deleting the text as I type. Again, I know it is JavaScript causing this, but why, and how can this be fixed?

    Thanks.

    Gamer000,

Are you using TinyMCE by any chance?

Well, I tried NSM Tiny MCE but it caused my channels to stop working, they just wouldn’t save. So, I uninstalled the fieldtype, but the files are technically still on the server.

At present I am using Wygwam 2.3

Are you trying to use WYGWAM in the forums? Or just as a fieldtype in a channel?

Just as a fieldtype in my channels.

If you temporarily remove wygwam, does the problem go away?

That didn’t go well… I disabled the Wygwam fieldtype, which in affect removed that field all together from my channels which in turn removed all that content. Thank goodness my server backups every night… WOW, something is seriously wrong with this system.

I’ve disabled Wygwam in the past and EE would just default the field to its normal body field, but of course this time I get the short end of the stick… Great…

And no that didn’t fix the forum PM issue. I’ve now had users tell me that they can past text from Microsoft word into the PM body field and it work, but if they type it backspaces everything into oblivion.

FIXED IT! Someone needs to explain these settings because they really messed me up…

By default, I had “HTML Formatting in Private Messages” set to: Allow only safe HTML. This setting was the cause of my text disappearing conundrum. I now have it set to: Convert HTML into character entities.

I hope this information helps someone else someday, cause boy, I sure could of used a heads up.

    Thanks.
