    Hi -

I’ve got a weird issue with an image uploaded via file manager.

User submits their profile, and as part of the process uploads a headshot.  However, the image that shows up in the preview window and finally submission looks washed out/faded, almost like it was converted to a lower color count or something. Almost looks like if you took the image in photoshop and saved a 32bit image as 16bit or lower..

I’ve deleted and re-uploaded the photo myself and can confirm this is happening.  Viewing the image on my mac - it shows up perfect. Then I upload, and bam - quality gets scaled way down.  I checked the file upload settings - and don’t see anything under image formatting etc.

Any ideas why uploading a photo this way is causing the quality to get hosed?

    Thanks.

    Hi tvruwink,

Can you run the server check wizard and see what versions of GD/GD2 and ImageMagick you have available?

Also are you using any add-ons that may be interacting with the image?

    Thank you.

    Lisa -
Thanks for the reply - I got pulled away to another project.

I just checked my version of GD and got:
    php-gd-5.1.6-27.el5_5.3

Running the server compatibility wizard, I see all requirements (optional, required and suggested) and listed as fulfilled.  I don’t see any version info however.

I’ll try uploading another test image to see if it get’s washed out too.

    Thanks.

    Hi Tim,

In addition, try uploading that test image to a photo hosting service (like Flickr or Facebook) and see what the results look like. Also try opening your image in the browser itself (just by going to File > Open File in the browser). Sometimes images can look different depending on if the OS opens the image in something like OS X’s Preview versus the browser.

Let us know what you find out.
