I renamed the system folder only. Default theme for the CP.
I’m baffled. What extension, theme, module or fieldtype used ‘_shared/menu/item_parent.php’ in the past? What could possibly be using this file?

Austin, that view is still used for the menu, it’s just that the default view files moved to system/expressionengine/views/ instead of having to be done for each theme.
I’m wondering if that didn’t get properly replaced. FTP in, pull down a copy of your current system/expressionengine/views folder- delete existing folder, upload a fresh copy from the latest download.
That do any good at all?

That seems to have fixed it. I’m wondering if the past two times when I have updated EE, those files were cached and that’s what was throwing the error?

Sounds like server cache or FTP- or a combo? Sometimes deleting the folder and then re-uploading knocks things loose. In fact- I usually just upload a whole new system folder- leave the old one up, and switch out the names (moving config files and any third party stuff over to the new folder). Eliminates the potential problem.
Which is a long way of saying ‘yay, glad that worked!’. 😉
Run into any more problems with it, just open up a new thread and we’ll dig in!
