How to install a new theme?

I’ve got my site design done and am outputting just basic HTML at the moment. I watched the Mijingo tutorials and it looked pretty straightforward to graft this into a theme.

But I just downloaded one of the Woothemes from Themeforest and the instructions say I need to do a fresh install. Obviously, since my site already exists I can’t simply start again.

So how can I select this new theme for my current install so that I can begin to customize it? Looking at the files it seems to be a complete EE project in its own right?

    Hi businessessentials

I presume you mean a ‘template’. In EE, a ‘theme’ is used to change look of the EE Control Panel.

Becuase of the extremely flexible nature of EE, the chances of any bought-theme (set of templates) matching your custom field names is zero.

So you’ll need to go through each of the new templates and replace Channel names and Field names, for each Entries tag.

I hope this makes sense. Could you show us a link to the Theme you bought. It may reveal more info…

    Best

    It was this one:

They call it a theme everywhere, I don’t know sorry.

They do say that you need to install with EE. But I thought there must be a way to change themes like Wordpress can do.

Perhaps static HTML files are easier to integrate in this respect. Looks like I might have to just pick it apart then and try to use what I can.

Were static HTML files included in your purchase?

    Unfortunately it doesn’t seem so.

It may actually help you. You’ll know where various EE tags will need to go and have a head start.

keep us posted and ask as many questions as you need!

Ok, thanks. It might take me some time to figure it all out and integrate!
