I get an error saying,“Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.”
But when I try to change permissions on the folder the folder will not allow me to change the permissions.
    What can I do?

I am having trouble uploading images through your database - I set permissions on the upload folder but it still gives me the same error massage. - and so of the folders will not let me change permissions, ‘images’ folder.

now I changed the path in the upload preferences and i get this now:
The upload path does not appear to be valid.

also if I go to the file manager, and click upload file - the page simply reloads.

I even create a file upload destination, and set the preferences but it still says:
The upload destination folder does not appear to be writable.

ok I am not too sure why it is taking so long for some technical support.
I have been trying to fix this for a couple days now. I synchronized the folder and I get the same error massage.

“map2.jpg: Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.
orange_20.png: Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.
staff_bg.jpg: Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.
white_70.png: Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.”

so I have the correct path when I go to set the permissions on the thumbs folder they are already 777.

    Chris,

There is no need to create multiple duplicate threads. Support is limited for the weekend that’s how your thread was left unanswered. We are on the case now though

Your error message is because of the permissions on your _thumbs folder

But when I try to change permissions on the folder the folder will not allow me to change the permissions.

You will need to contact your host to see why you cannot change permissions on these folders or why you may not have ownership of those folders to do so.

yesterday I did have access to change permissions, however today I cannot.
Even when the folder was set at 777, I got the same error messages. also, I tries to delete my first post, and it did not allow me to delete it, AND the only reason I kept writing was it was over the one day promise for a response I waited 3 days.

I got permissions to change all the other folders but when I now try to change the imahges folder I get the error message below.

so I created a new path and file directory and still the same thing:
Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.
and yes the permissions are all 777 on both the uploads and _thumbs folder

    Chris,

I’m sorry you are upset about the wait time for a response, however our response time is measured against “business days” and that does not include weekends. I understand it’s frustrating when something doesn’t work and you feel that no one is listening.

Now back to your issue, did you run our Server Wizard on your environment to test for supported features? I recently dealt with this very same error and it was the result of the GD graphics library not being included with PHP on the web server I was using. Give the wizard a run and report back with your findings.

    Cheers,

    Chris,

Well… OK then. What server environment are you running this on (Windows IIS, Apache, etc…)? Can you tell me what you have in the Upload Destination path settings? Feel free to dummy up any sensitive bits, if need be.

    Cheers,

    here are my paths:
Server Path to upload directory:  /var/www/vhosts/mon.monkeyforestroad.com/mfr1/images/uploads/
    URL of Upload Directory: http://www.monkeyforestroad.com/images/uploads/

I think I am running Apache, but hard to say because I am trying to do this site and he set up the db for me, and I do not have access to the host, but he will get back to me shortly.

Server is Apache running on Linux (CentOS). I have root access and can modify anything you suggest.

    URL of Upload directory: http://example.com/images/uploads/
Server path to upload directory: /var/www/vhosts/example.com/example1/images/uploads/

    Hi Chris,

Based on the error message that Fetch gave you, it looks like the _thumbs folder isn’t even there. Could you refresh the directory listing within the uploads folder and post back a screenshot of that?

    Hi,

Just to say that I’m having exactly the same problem when I deploy from a local installation to the staging server. Everything seems to work but I get the same error message when trying to upload regarding the thumbnails. My thumbnails directory was on 755 by default, I tried 777 to be sure but still no job. Paths seem correct because if I intentionally break the path I get told that the path does not appear to be correct.

Just to say that if you find a solution then share the love. I need to launch a site tomorrow so I’m running a tight deadline here.

Just an update to my issue. It seemed to be a problem with the GD 2 library. I re-installed on the server, made sure it was using GD 2 in the settings and then it seemed fine. Probably not related to the above but just to let you know anyway.
