Is it possible to style error message pages like when you enter a wrong capatcha in comments, or your comment is to be moderated message. Would that be handled by a 404 template if you configure a custom one for that channel?

Hi there,
You can access the user message template to amend the layout via: Design -> Message Pages -> User Messages

If you want to you can also set a 404 template via: Design -> Templates -> Global Preferences
