I am considering building a new application which, for the purpose of this question, will essentially mimic much of the functionality of a service such as Dribbble.

The client budget is not massive and thus I am considering options which preferably don’t involve building things from the ground up (all a Codeigniter).

I have used EE for a number of websites which, whilst reasonably complex in terms of multi-channel content management, closely adhere to the primary usage scenarios for EE.

So, armed with a few plugins and stand alone entry forms I am wondering if EE can deliver what I need - or am I in wishful thinking land?  The application will need to be slick, professional and native (i.e. no interaction with EE control panel for end users).  They will need to register, manage profiles, upload material and review their profile statistics (views, likes, shares) that sort of thing.

So once again, am I in dreamland thinking EE can deliver?

You could certainly build the basics, user accounts, entry listings, categorisation, tags and so on without much trouble, though things like Playoffs would probably need a closer look and a bit of custom work.
