Excessive Memory Usage (>11 mb) on Blank Template

EE 2.2.1 with the following modules Structure Playa, Matrix, WYGWAM, Solspace Tags, User.

I have read and implemented the EE Performance doc suggestions, where possible.

My hosting provide has indicated that my site has very high memory usage. A simple blank page is greater than 11.8mb with only 13 queries. I’ve deleted every Snippet, uninstalled unused plugins and still can’t get the memory usage down.

For some reason the blank template looks to be loading Structure data, even though this Channel isn’t manged by Structure. This could be a Structure issue, but I thought I’d start here first.

    Any suggestions?

Why do you think 13 MB is excessive. Who is the host? I just ran output debugging on one of my test sites and it was slightly higher than yours with a little bit of data coming through. Unless you are experiencing some other issues because of this then I fail to see what the problem is.

Part of the reasons is that my hosting company (Fused.com) has stated that because of the memory usage they are doing a “forced upgrade” which is going to cost an extra 150% in hosting fees per year. The hosting company is actually a higher-end provider, so I was surprised that they were concerned about the memory usage, considering the site only gets 5000 pageviews per day. Anyway, it’s pay way more money or look at migrating to a new host - neither of which I’m really motivated to do right now.

For one of my heavy pages the memory usage is about 25mb with about 65 queries. Caching helps a bit. I’m going to assume that based on your comment this isn’t unreasonable?

EngineHosting might be an option if my current provider doesn’t like those numbers.

No. It is not unreasonable. I just checked 3 live sites including one blog and all of them ran 12-15. I don’t get the kind of traffic you are talking about on these sites but the amount of memory used in rendering pages should not cause your host to charge you that much.

I would move the site. It is a fairly simple thing to do so. If they are going to play games you can vote by leaving. Even my low budget clients on Host Gator or GoDaddy don’t have that issue.

Thanks, I’ll look into getting a better hosting company.
