    Hi EE staff,

Just got a message from one of our clients, who is running an EE2 site:

We have 55 new members within the past few days.  All of these new members come from a similar email address:

    163.com
    qq.com
    tom.com
    sohu.com

Only about 3 or 4 have gone from “Pending” to “Uninitiated”.  None have gone to “Member” status.

From my research it looks to all be from China.  I pulled up Google Analytics to see if I could get more info and find out where these members were coming from.I checked the stats for the “/join/” page and it shows that only 5 pageviews and 4 unique.

I was wondering from your perspective how this is possible.  How are people joining at this rate without the analytics showing the traffic?

First and foremost, I understand this may be a question you can’t answer definitively. It could be a Google Analytics thing, or it could be that the spammer has some wonky access to the registration form (?). As long as the members remain in “pending” status we should be ok. That being said, is there a good way to combat membership spam? (I’ll check available add-ons as I’m sure something is available).

    Thanks!
