Forgot Password form seems to be sending two passwords, not one

    Hello,

I believe this started happening after a recent update to EE 2.2.1 (at least, I don’t recall seeing this behavior in previous versions), but recently when using the Forgot Password form, both the native EE one and the one that comes with Solspace’s User module, the user receives one “Login Information” message with a URL to click for confirmation, after which the system sends two new passwords, both unique, but only the second one actually works.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

For what it is worth, nothing has changed about our e-mail configuration.

    Hey GVF,

I’m not able to replicate that on this end, so it doesn’t look like it’s a bug in 2.2.1. Is it possible that your browser is loading the password reset page twice? Which browser are you using for this? Does the behavior change if you change browsers?

    Thanks for the response, Kevin!

I’ve tried it in both Firefox and Chrome to see if the browser is at fault, but I end up getting two passwords in either case.

I wonder what other factors could be causing something like this…

Ok, two things I would try here. First, globally disable extensions and try again with the native forgotten password form. This takes User completely out of the picture.

If that doesn’t take care of it, upgrade your installation to the latest version of EE (version 2.2.2) to make sure we’re testing with the same software going forward.

Thanks for the response, Kevin. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you about this!

I have just now updated to the latest version of EE, v2.2.2 - Build: date 20110801, and tried globally disabling all extensions and using the native EE forgot password form rather than the User one, as you suggested, but still the system sent two passwords rather than one.

Can you think of anything else that might be causing this?

Be on the lookout for an email from me. I’m gonna check on this first-hand to see what’s going on.

Thank you, Kevin. I’ve sent the details.

Given that User doesn’t seem to be involved, I’m wondering if it might be an MSM issue, but please take a look and let me know what you discover.

    Thanks again!

I just tested this out myself, and I can’t get the problem to happen for me. I waited for quite a while to make sure a second “New Login Information” email wasn’t on its way, but it never came. And the password contained in the first and only email worked like a charm.

So it looks like this issue might be more narrow than we thought. Have you tested this with multiple accounts in different member groups? Does there appear to be a pattern there? Have you tried using different email services to see if you can find a pattern with the recipient email server?

Just checking in to see if you have an update for us, GVF. If I don’t hear back, I’ll just consider this resolved and close it up in a few days.
