I’ve searched and searched to see if anyone has done just this and couldn’t find any threads on the subject, although this seems like a common feature.

I have a site with several channels (services, articles, newsletters) and 2 category groups. On entry pages that are not category pages, I want to display in the sidebar a list of entries that have the same category in the current and other channels.

For example, if I have a page /services/consulting and the consulting entry has a category of Sales, I’d like to display in the sidebar other services, as well as articles and newsletters, that have the category Sales, grouped by channel.

Is there any way to do this when the category name is not in the url? If it were, I could use the categories archive tag but that won’t work here as far as I can tell.

    Hi, vmills.

Do you only have a single category for each entry? You’ll probably have to do a query to bring back the right category. There may be a third party add-on, look over on Devot-ee.com when it comes back online.

Thanks. I’ve always struggled with categories in EE. I’ll take a look at addons.

Ahg. I’m having this same problem.

Except I have 2 categories per entry (both from different category groups); I want the sidebar to display related entries with the 2nd category of the displayed article.
I have the 1st (primary category) in the URI and I’m using seg2cat.

Any ideas? I’ve tried out quite a few modules over at devot-ee and can’t find anything to suit my needs…

    Hi philanthropyRT,

A custom query is probably going to be your best bet here. We can’t specifically support custom queries but I can move this over to Community Help if you’d like; that should definitely be do-able.

Hey Brandon, thanks for the reply. I’d love this to be moved over the Community Help. I’d really love to have some help to solve this, as I barely any experience with custom query’s.

    Thanks!!
