setting up thumbnail directory

I just upgraded a site from EE v202pb01 to v2.2.1, the first site I have using the latest version.

When I am trying to upload an image to a channel entry (a field with the “File” type) I am getting the error “Thumbnail could not be created for the image. Please make sure the thumbnail directory is writable.”

According to the EE_Wizard I do have GD installed. I do have the File module installed as well. I’m having trouble finding the docs that explain where to set up the thumbnail directory so that I can upload new images and sync my directories in the File manager.

I’m probably missing the obvious, but could someone point me in the right direction?

I’ll certainly try and help. It seems you have a folder that has permissions set incorrectly. Go back to the Upgrade Instructions and look at step #4. It outlines the permissions needed for the handful of folders that are different than the rest.

Per the instructions, I set the following files to 666

    system/expressionengine/config/config.php
    system/expressionengine/config/database.php

I also set the cache folder to 777. There is one subdirectory within the cache folder, “ee_version” which also is set to 777.

Going back to the CP, I still am getting the error message.

You also need to set your folders that you are uploading to to 777. Try that and let me know what happens.

Ah, that is where the thumbnail directory is, inside of each upload directory. And the permissions weren’t set.

    Got it. Thanks.

Glad you got it sorted out. Closing this issue.
