We have a few licenses for EE, but wanted to get our dev newbies to play with installing and learning the interface with the free open source version. I can not find a download link to download the free core version. Am I missing something?

EECore was discontinued over a year ago when we released EE 2.
You can certainly install a sandbox to let your devs learn EE in a collaborative environment, though, since you own a license.
